Photochemical Machining of Metallic Glasses (Amorphous Alloys) in Ferric-Chloride-Based Etchants

Winter 1986

Metallic glasses (Amorphous alloys) have recently been developed with improved mechanical and magnetic properties compared with conventional crystalline materials (see Tables 1 and 2 respectively). Metallic glasses cannot be stamped easily as tooling is worn rapidly and consequently photochemical machining (pcm) is a recommended fabrication method for such devices as magnetic recording head and core laminations.
