Cooling Water Alternatives
This is the second part of a paper that was published in the fall 1993 edition (issue No. 54) of THE JOURNAL. The first part discussed the estimation of the cooling load and methods that could be used to determine the maximum allowed inlet water temperature. This portion discusses the various methods of supplying cooling water to photochemical machining processes (including the manufacture of printed wiring boards).
The most common method of supplying cooling water is the direct connection of the cooler to the water main. In this method, the inlet of the cooling coil (or its water control valve) is connected directly to the city water supply. This method of connection has the lowest capital cost of all the cooling water-supply systems. Nothing more than interconnecting piping is required.
